The main draw here is the moderate winter trek to Tungnath—the highest Shiva temple in the world (3,680 m)—and further up to the Chandrashila Summit (4,130 m). Reaching the summit at dawn during the winter months rewards you with a spellbinding 360-degree view of the snow-laden Kedarnath and Chaukhamba peaks glowing in the morning light.

3. Munsiyari: The Remote Kumaoni Secret

Tucked far away in the Pithoragarh district of the Kumaon region, Munsiyari is an offbeat paradise meant for travelers willing to endure a long drive for absolute isolation. Sitting at 2,298 meters, it is often called the "Gateway to the Johar Valley."

What makes Munsiyari special is its devastatingly close views of the Panchachuli Peaks—a group of five snow-capped Himalayan peaks that look almost close enough to touch. During winter, the entire village is draped in white, offering spectacular short hikes like the trek to Khaliya Top. It is significantly less crowded than Garhwal destinations, offering a deep dive into traditional Kumaoni winter life.

4. Dhanaulti & Chakrata: Easy Access Snow

If you are traveling from Delhi or Chandigarh and want to see snow without driving deep into the inner Himalayas, these two spots are your best bets.

Dhanaulti

Located just an hour past the crowded streets of Mussoorie, Dhanaulti (2,286 m) retains a quiet, forested charm.
